Predator: Killer of Killers

 The Apex species at the top of the food chain continues its favorite pastime; trophy hunting in search of the worthiest opponents, the formidable kinds. 

Ever since Trachtenberg revitalized this franchise once considered being on its deathbed by focusing on the basics and experimenting on new themes with the inception of Prey, he seems even more energized with a yen for taking new leaps with this new one. He tips his proverbial hat to the classic techs and weapons chest, symbols, moves and Easter eggs while adding fresh tactics and maneuvers. Only this time Dan gives an amphitheater battle arena makeover to the whole game with gladiatorial spectacles in an interwoven plot structure which turns out to be a visual delight with radical action sequences filled with characters with steadfast resolves whose survival ultimately depends on how quickly they get over their differences and work in tandem. 

Stylized Badassery is in full display in Killer of Killers which despite going cross-cultural and beyond the conventional boundaries since its origin during the late 80s still doesn’t seem to have forgotten its roots. While Trachtenberg gave this animated film a norse, ninja and dogfight treatment peppered with anthropic characteristics fueled by tribalism, revenge, ego, purpose, bravery, camaraderie, sacrifice and other sources of human values and motivations, the predators couldn’t care less about all that. Typical.
