Terminator treatment to the Alien franchiseIt's very grand. Was designed like a megacity contrary to what its predecessors were about which was a ship lost in the cosmos. With the studio's interference quite staggering and palpable, the scale of vision is limited but the degree of imagination can't be denied as to have been undercut provided it's the director's debut film. Right from the get-go it makes some bold choices, the controversial ones, I take it, rub off the long-term franchise fans quite the wrong way. Given it's a Fincher movie, squeamishness around the sight of blood, abattoir and the operating instruments would be funny and this sequel makes that a point by committing all that into the themes. The religious, occult and spiritual angles can also be noticeable as the proper manifestations of these would come to full fruition two years later which later turned out to be a magnum opus of the director's career. The dialogues and character dynamic were certainly not only underdeveloped, half-baked and rushed but also seemed preposterous, detached and atypically dissociative from the rest of the franchise. Even the alien itself looks like a replica of a polished action figure of an upgraded version, they showed their hands very early on without withholding the suspense, that too in a far away wide angle shot. They also got rid of the claustrophobic settings, the vents and pipes that used to be the trademark of this IP. The whole thing was a couple of notches downgraded from the original by Scott and its sequel by Cameron. But, it won't be an exaggeration to state that even this standard has become a dream in the 21st century with movies about extraterrestrial creature horror feature.
