✍️ Full Review

The memetic neurosis that grabs ahold of little kids because of the effective “Recruit them young” potency. Contrary to the popular belief this contagion doesn’t start in crowded public spaces, rather, mostly from home it follows.

In the latest segment of “Children play the darnedest games, don’t they?”, Charlie Polinger presents his madcap surefire recipe for the making of a potential school shooter that is as heady as it is weighty with the help of jarring sound design. He uses conversion disorder as the metaphorical instrument in the script to dissect the impacts of toxic traits of masculinity often too stubborn to be gotten rid of even way into the adulthood. The Plague stands at that sweet spot, a synthesis among carrie, Mean Creek and We Need to Talk About Kevin. It has a real Raw by Julia Ducournau vibe to it without the gore and overt body horror.Β

It builds up the pressure to the point at which even one forces to ponder- “Does corporal punishment need a comeback?” And then upon having a psychological tennis rally, the outcome remains as it always has been- Isn’t some form of corporal punishment the reason why we are in this mess to begin with?

Joel Edgerton unlike his contemporaries has gone backwards from playing tough guys to criminals to refreshingly donning tamer mature characters and now, in one year we have both Train Dreams and The Plague. Everett Blunck is a real find.
