A parable within a parable. Kyle Balda, the Illumination and Pixar animator/director comes to the rescue in these circumstances when Hollywood this year is having a dearth of decent animated movies. The Sheep Detective is full of mirth, humor and uplifting features where the talking animals resemble more of what humanity has since lost. I know we have our doubts due to the infamous debacle of 2020’s Dolittle but clubbing The Sheep Detectives with those fluff pieces would be a misreading because it also has its own doughnut hole alongside the usual animals-seeking-adventure-plot with self-aware comedy scattered here and there. It’s what could have been if Pedro Pascal’s Joel had opened a sheep ranch. Also, Brett Goldstein as a voice actor is too hilarious to be sleeping on this one.
