"In the name of Daphne Du Murier and Rebecca, how lame that felt even though the difficult task of having to sit through a BookTok and BookTube-approved and recommended novel was over for me years ago. Even then, somehow the adapted finished product came out worse. This is the new strategy in cinema then. To revive Josh Hartnett's career and field him in roles brought to you by Guy Ritchie and Shyamalan all the way to Nolan. Hard to believe in the era of Obsession, hammy ponderous mediocre stuff like this are somehow attracting the attention of A-list actresses. And the OTT lieges should seriously consider going beyond their usual Hoover-McFadden popularity bubble. The usual neurotic, self-centred, narcissist characters who would light up on every scale of the five-factor model, either playing one-upmanship against one another or vying for the experiences not vicariously, but rather with the most simplistic schemes. No nuance, no subtlety. Just dialogue-heavy, comforting and skimmable familiarity. I mean who's next? Alex Michaelides and Peter Swanson? P.S.- There is a bar scene that may induce vomiting. Not the kind that happens due to disgust. Worse, this might make you puke out of cringe. At least, they chose to set aside the coat hanger scene."
