Together

2025

"It's like a couple's therapy for a Hollywood's happy couple known often for their comedic roles wrapped inside a disgustingly weird body horror. 2025 is turning out to be a really good year for the horror genre."

"Pity for the rich, sympathy for the poor.....Every shot a portrait... Kurosawa second to none."

How to Train Your Dragon

2025

"This little movie displays spectacularly that when done properly and earnestly, although might not reach the heights of the one it was adapted from, still gets to stand on the shoulder of its giant antecedent."

Nobody 2

2025

"It aches me to say this but Sharon Stone was particularly abysmal in this. They stripped away everything that made the prequel a complementary watch with John Wick."

Top Gun: Maverick

"3 years later still the best action movie since Fury Road. Tom Cruise pulls an Ethan Hunt in a Top Gun movie."

Eddington

2025

"This escalated quickly from Ari Aster's dabble into being an unapologetic political ideologue topical to the current landscape to Coen Bros style delirium but in a cartoonishly outrageous way. Funny thing is I don't know whether the movie was being self-aware or satirical."

The Thursday Murder Club

2025

"... And it's still another uneventful thursday. A bland blend of a veritable who's who of eminent veterans, experienced actors and some newcomers with pieces of puzzles falling right into the perfect places, almost too perfectly and with precise timing. Let's just say I saved a tiny Penny by not buying the popular novel promoted endlessly on TikTok."

I Know What You Did Last Summer

1997

"Going in, I presumed it was gonna be another drop in the 90s slasher bucket, but it was pretty decently well-handled and didn't demand a varying degree of suspension of disbelief. There were some over-the-top performances and line deliveries along with predictable jump scares and outrageous screams which were very 20th century, but overall a good slasher."

Happy Gilmore 2

"I guess with more money and Netflix deals come more bright colors, fireworks, brand placements and what was once a Happy time comfort flick has now become a celebrity league."

The Ballad of Wallis Island

2025

"In search of lost time and making up for it with the ones who once parted ways... In the current era of Hollywood when very often the demand is frequently saturated with dreary, drab or dark movies, This one is full of Wales's overcast weather, sunsets, mountainous meadows, pebbled beach, folk guitar and a heartbroken but passionate fan's attempt to get his favorite band duo back together. Carey Mulligan is among the most underrated actresses there ever have been, yet, Tim Key overshadows her by a stretch. In essence, a beautiful movie about serenity and dialing the emotions right to the point where it hits."

F1

2025

"Brad Pitt plays Maverick on asphalt. A fully turbocharged gasoline-soaked thrill of a race. Kosinski does a partial 180 on the whole- "It's not the plane, it's the pilot", maybe because this time, it's the circuits and it's almost always about the car. F1 doesn't exactly have the storytelling and character building aspects of Rush or Ford v Ferrari but it has technical as well as technological superiority and it shows Pitt with a panache. Now, is this movie all…"

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

2025

"Hunt be hunting but the franchise has since developed arthritis post-Fallout. While hanging by a proverbial thread to the nostalgia plane, The Final Reckoning reverts the whole franchise to its pre-glory phase with the same old trite formula. Same starting point, predictable midpoint collision, the usual climax and a denouement to remind us there is more to come. How many times can the producers and the studio run the same equation with the similar variables over and over again and…"

The Life of Chuck

2024

"Finally! Those dance lessons pay off spectacularly going beyond CBS's Late Late Show. Say what you will, but the MCU has been missing out on a massive talent here. The only thing missing was Sam Rockwell. Having said that, the all-tell-no-show characteristics of the acts sure do add gravitas to the characters inhabiting the stories but the whole process itself left a little more to be desired unlike the somewhat similar The Wachowskis' Cloud Atlas. It must be great for…"

Superman

2025

"Gunn trades off substance with usual confetti-clad opulence, awe and trademarks of giant fantastical monsters preferably with tentacles (why can't the creatures in Gunn's movies be scary for once; big land octopus, butterflies, starfish), love for animals therefore sidekicks, found family, villains possessing delusion of grandeur to achieve the dreamy utopia/dystopia. The studios have to think beyond the captioned conversations, childlike flippant dialogues, out of place speeches, going off on tangents to fish for humor, the emotional bits all over…"

Aliens

1986

"Cameron takes over the franchise and fills it up with what it lacked. Made it all about character progression, fantastical weaponry, fancy make-believe equipment, mechanized badassery and what he would later major in which has always been about humanity conquering some odds whether it's man vs machine, man vs ocean, man vs Na'vi etc, in this case it just happens to be extraterrestrials. Turns a sci-fi horror into his patented brand of action thriller coupled with his advanced tech-savvy experimentation.…"

Alien

1979

"In an unknown environment in order to create the perfect horror, there must be zero embrace of familiarity, no fat remains for trimming, no overwhelming music to dampen the effects of abject terror; there is no action hero to be awaited for rescue, no deus ex machina, the only instinct plot-wise has to be rooted in the philosophy of the survival of the fittest. Claustrophobic horror at its best. Cinema in its full glory and pure excellence. True to the words- They don't make 'em like this anymore. The movie that made me miss the 20th century Ridley Scott."

28 Years Later

2025

"I would have never connected the whole rising from the dead with christianity without Danny returning to the franchise. It's like an R-rated Captain Fantastic the first half and The Road mixed with Predator in the second and a hint of Apocalypse Now in the third, where the walking dead are not just props like they were in the spinoff prequels rather a whole different species. And the anxiety-inducing score complementing this neo-Paleolithic age setting... Just perfection. All three Later movies have precocious kids in all of them, but this one takes the trophy home."
